Immortal Befuddled Expanded...Happy Birthday, Dennis!!!

If it's not obvious, I am a huge fan of Dennis E. Power, especially his article Immortal Befuddled.  However, my rules for my reality are the "What you see is what happened."  But since this blog is a spin-off of Win Scott Eckert's Crossovers:  A Secret Chronology of the World, and that book incorporated Immortal Befuddled, I can happily use it without breaking my rules, but by merely making an exception.  I've already incorporated Immortal Befuddled into several of my other blogs.  But now it's time to tackle it in it's own blog.

It should be noted that I have very fond memories of Abbott and Costello, the basis for Ollu and Buzsla.  My father and I used to watch the movies together when I was a kid...before he walked out on us.  Ahem.

Also, I want to point out I'm not going to repeat Dennis' awesome work.  I will direct you back to it's original source.  I am merely going to expand on his original work with my own crossover finds and theories.

So let's get going.

Prehistory--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1b.htm for the period that covers Laurel and Hardy shorts, the Abbott and Costello animated series, and the Flintstones.

52,000 BC--A meteor strikes near a village located close to the Dead Sea.  Two brothers from a nearby farming village happen to be in the forest at the time and are both affected by the radiation.  Two others from the nearby village are also both wandering nearby and are affected, just as one is eating forbidden fruit.  Three others are also nearby, because they are lost, and are affected.  All are given immortality.  Later, the brothers get in a fight, and the stronger one kills the weaker one, but the weaker one's essence gets trapped in a jewel. The slain one was called Abel but will become known as the Immortal Man.  His brother/killer was called Cain, but will go on to be called Kane, Vandar Adg, Vandal Savage, and many other names.  The two local villagers who were at the tree were Ollu (who ate the fruit) and Buzsla.  They would go on to have many different identities.  The three who were lost had names whose original spelling is lost, but are pronounced Moe, Larry, and Curly.  (This is an amalgamation of IMMORTAL BEFUDDLED, THE BOOK OF GENESIS, YEAR ONE, and DC COMICS origin for IMMORTAL MAN and VANDAL SAVAGE.)

52,000 BC--YEAR ONE--After a fire started by Ollu destroys the village, the villagers leave and then captured to become slaves in Sodom.  Eventually, they are saved by Ollu and Buzsla.  The village then splits.  One group goes off with Buzsla to rebuild the village, while the other half follows Ollu to Egypt.  However, the three spend so much time arguing which groups to go with that both leave without them.  Thus they must fend for themselves.

c. 50,250 B.C.--THE FLINTSTONES--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1b.htm for the full story.  Note the Flintstones had several spin-offs, commercials, specials, movies, and comics that all fit into the Flintstones canon and thus all count.  However, most of the interactions of Fred and Barney in the modern day are Ollu and Buzsla as they are in that time as immortals and does not usually involve time travel.  These two do tend to use their old Bedrock names when they cross over to the Looniverse.

c. 50,,250 B.C.--FLINTSTONES--When Pebbles Flintstone and Bam Bam Rubble are entered into a beauty contest their fathers Ollu (using the name Fred Flintstone) and Buzsla (as Barney Rubble) are aggressively seeking votes.  Amongst those they attempt to sway are the Three Stooges, who have made their way to Bedrock, though neither group of immortals seems to recognize each other from the old village

c. 50,250 B.C.--FLINTSTONES--"Samantha"--This episode shows that Samantha is very old, as she is the same age physically back in this time period.  She is living in Bedrock.  We know from Dennis Power that Bedrock was a society that tried to reproduce what they learned of the 20th century from an immortal time traveler who is/was/will be TARZAN.  She marries her soulmate, named Darrin. Darrin will be reincarnated in the future as Darrin Stephens, who she will marry again.  Her and Darrin move next store to Fred, Wilma, and baby Pebbles Flintstone.  On the other side is Barney, Betty, and baby Bam-Bam Rubble.  Dennis also informs us that Fred and Barney are the immortals OLLU and BUZSLA.  The three families go camping together.  The babies witness Samantha using magic, but they can't talk yet.  Samantha secretly uses her powers to mess with the sexist guys and to make the women look empowered when they really aren't.

c. 50,250 B.C.--FRED AND BARNEY MEET THE SHMOO-An alien called the Shmoo lands in Bedrock and is befriended by Ollu and Buzsla.  In the 20th century, L'IL ABNER will also encounter a shmoo, then in the far future, two shmoos belong to the heroic HERCULOIDS.

c. 50,250 B.C.--THE JETSONS MEET THE FLINTSTONES--The Jetsons, a family from the future year 2020, travel back in time and meet the Flintstones and Rubbles, then take them back to the year 2020 to see their world.

c. 1350 B.C. to 845--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1c.htm to learn of the true TVCU versions of the events of the Abbott and Costello animated series.

c. 1279 B.C.--HERCULES:  THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS/XENA, WARRIOR PRINCESS--During this time, Ollu and Buzsla are living in Greece, but traveling separately after a falling out.  Ollu has taken the name of Salmoneus where he operates as a sleazy, shady salesman and con man.  Meanwhile, Buzsla, under the name of Joxer, has decided to become a heroic, adventuresome warrior.  In the 20th century, these two will sell their stories to Sam Raimi.  But with not completely perfect memories, there are historical inaccuracies, which is one of the two explanations for that.

1st century B.C.--ASTERIX:  OBELIX AND CO.--Asterix encounters the immortal bumblers, Ollu and Buzsla.

870s to 1400--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1d.htm for the details of this, the medieval period, which includes THE LONG SHIPS, THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES, JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, and THE COURT JESTER.

1338 to 1350--SNOW WHITE AND THE THREE STOOGES--The Three Stooges are involved in the events of the classic SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS.  Old friends Ollu and Buszla are also present as seen in THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES episode "Eighth Dwarf."

1400 to 1533--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1e.htm for the truth behind the events of this era, including BOHEMIAN GIRL, ONE NIGHT IN THE TROPICS, UTOPIA, and THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES.

1624 to 1638--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1f.htm for the full story behind THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES.

1698 to 1800--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1g.htm for the full story behind ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET CAPTAIN KIDD, FRA DIAVOLO, and TIME OF THEIR LIVES.

1779--PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN:  CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL--Ollu and Buzsla are going by Murtogg and Mulroy.  They work for the British Royal Navy (technically the East India Trading Company.)  As usually, they are incompetent even as guards as Captain Jack Sparrow easily outwits them in stealing a boat after confusing them.  Note that this may mean that TIME OF THEIR LIVES might be slightly off date wise regarding the date Dennis used.  Or PIRATES may be off regarding the dates Win uses in CROSSOVERS.

1780 to 1790--PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN:  AT WORLD'S END--Ollu and Buzsla are now at sea with the British forces, but choose to switch sides and join Jack's crew at the end.

1806 to 1902--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1h.htm for the events behind the 19th century misadventures, including THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES, LAUREL AND HARDY SHORTS, BONNIE SCOTLAND, WAY OUT WEST, WISTFUL WIDOW OF WAGON GAP, CHUMP AT OXFORD, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, COMING 'ROUND THE MOUNTAIN, NAUGHTY NINETIES, LOST IN ALASKA, WHY GIRLS LOVE SAILORS, IN THE NAVY, and OUR RELATIONS.

1902 to 1994--See http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1i.htm for the full story behind THE MUSIC BOX, SAPS AT SEA, NOOSE HANGS HIGH, WRONG AGAIN, SONS OF THE DESERT, LAUREL AND HARDY SHORTS, IT AIN'T HAY, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO ANIMATED SERIES, JITTERBUGS, SWISS MISS, FLYING DEUCES, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO IN THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION, LOST IN A HAREM, SAILORS BEWARE!, IN SOCIETY, BUCK PRIVATES, GREAT GUNS, BUCK PRIVATES COME HOME, PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES, MIDNIGHT PATROL, MEXICAN HAYRIDE, THE BULLFIGHTERS, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE KEYSTONE COPS, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE KILLER BORIS KARLOFF, PARDON MY SARONG, DINO BOY, RIDE 'EM COWBOY, LITTLE GIANT, HOLD THAT GHOST, RIO RITA, WHO DONE IT?, HIT THE ICE, KEEP EM FLYING, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO GO TO MARS, TIME OF THEIR LIVES, AIR RAID WARDENS, THE BIG NOISE, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO IN HOLLYWOOD, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE MUMMY, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE INVISIBLE MAN, AFRICA SCREAMS, THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO TELEVISION SHOW, GODZILLA, ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET DR. MOREAU, and THE ALL NEW ADVENTURES OF LAUREL AND HARDY:  FOR LOVE OR MUMMY.

1902 to 1906--MUTT AND JEFF--For the full story, go to http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1i.htm.  Note that the comic strip Cicero's Cat is a spin-off of the Mutt and Jeff strip.  Mutt and Jeff were the stars of comic strips, comic books, movies, and animated shorts, that all fit into the canon.

1928--THE GARRY MOORE SHOW--Ollu and Buzsla try to sell vacuum cleaners.

1934--HOLLYWOOD PARTY--Jimmy Durante gets the help of Baron Munchausen to boost his career, so in return, Durante throws him a huge party.  The Trio crashes the party to get autographs.  Attendees at the party are Ollu and Buzsla (being confused for actors Laurel and Hardy), Mickey Mouse and the Big Bad Wolf (from the Looniverse, who were working in Hollywood at the time, using the portal at Toon Town to pass through dimensions), and many others.

1946 to 1948--CAVALCADE OF STARS/THE RED SKELTON HOUR/THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW/THE HONEYMOONERS/THE JACK BENNY PROGRAM/JACKIE GLEASON AND HIS AMERICAN SCENE MAGAZINE--For the real scoop behind the events of this show, go to http://www.pjfarmer.com/secret/Immortal/befuddled1i.htm.  Note that the period of the 1970s that featured HONEYMOONERS reunion specials does not work in the TVCU with Dennis' Immortal Befuddled explanation.  They do however, fit into Toby O'Brien's TOOBWORLD where the events of that show are not about Ollu and Buzsla.

October 1948—ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN—Dr. Latos (a Dracula soul clone) has himself sent to La Mirada, Florida along with Henry Frankenstein’s monster under the pretense that they are wax figures.  Larry Talbot pursues them to stop Latos’ plans.  What are his plans?  He wishes to replace the evil warped brain inside the monster with that of a stupid and weak willed brain.  He thinks he finds that brain in security guard Wilber Gray.  What nobody knows is that Wilber Gray and his co-worker Chick Young are really two immortals named Ollu and Buzla.  Oh, and Geoffrey Radcliffe appears, or rather doesn’t appear, at the end.

February 1954--THE COLGATE COMEDY HOUR--Ollu and Buzsla encounter THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.

Spring 1954--ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE MUMMY--The immortals Ollu and Buzsla are in Egypt when they encounter the mummy Klaris (not the be confused with his cousin Kharis from THE MUMMY'S HAND and sequels.)

1956--HALF-FARE HARE--Probably for the first time, Ollu and Buzsla are found in the Looniverse hungry and homeless as railroad hobos, who find that Bugs Bunny might be a great meal.

1957--SPACE SHIP SAPPY--The trio win an award for best liars at a Liars Club meeting. Actually, the story they tell is one loosely based on an adventure that actually happened to two of their oldest friends, Ollu and Buszla, when they went to Mongo in 1941 (in ABBOTT AND COSTELLO GO TO MARS.)

1958--THE GARRY MOORE SHOW--Ollu and Buzsla again try to sell vacuum cleaners.

Fall 1959--ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE INVISIBLE MAN--Boxer Tommy Nelson is framed for murder and takes the famous Griffin invisibility formula then hires detectives Ollu and Buzsla to help him.

March 1, 1961--TV GUIDE--TV Guide hosts a party in the Looniverse.  Attendees are (from the Looniverse):  Yogi Bear, Sylvester the Cat, Donald Duck, Vincent Van Gopher, Huckleberry Hound, Mickey Mouse, Olive Oyl, Popeye, Quick Draw McGraw, Bugs Bunny, Pepe LePew, Auggie Doggie and his daddy, Mr. Magoo, Pixie and Dixie, Tweety Bird, Deputy Dawg, and Felix the Cat.  Also attending, having been pulled from the TVCU are:  Dick Tracy, Flat-Top, Ollu (using the alias Fred Flintstone), and Buzsla (using the alias Barney Rubble).  Appearances of Fred and Barney in the present are not due to time travel.  This is their current incarnations.  Ollu and Buzsla are part of a select few that often get to visit the alternate reality called the Looniverse.

September 19, 1963--THE JIMMY DEAN SHOW--Ollu, as Fred Flintstone, appears on this show.

September 1968--HERE'S LUCY--"Lucy Visits Jack Benny"--Lucy and gang head out west for vacation where Jack Benny lets they stay at his home...for a price.  The bus driver for the tour they go on is Ollu, using the alias of Ralph Kramden.

February 1972--THE NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES--"Scooby-Doo Meets Laurel and Hardy (aka the Ghost of Bigfoot)"--The gang meets and works with the immortals OLLU AND BUZSLA who are using the names of Stan Laurel and Ollie Hardy now.  Later, during the Laff-A Lympics, they will meet them again under the names Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble.

1977 to 1979--SCOOBY'S LAFF-A LYMPICS--First, I want to note that my first ever comic was an adaptation of this show.  And this show was one of the reasons I do what I do now (meaning write about crossovers, not studying law, LOL.)  OK, let's talk about the show.  Members of the Looniverse community decide to have a continuing  series of sporting events with three teams competing.  The first team is the Scooby Doobies.  This team consists of Scooby, Mystery, Inc, and several groups of mystery solving teenagers that are all pulled from the TVCU.  This is the first time that Scooby and the Gang are visiting the Looniverse.  They will visit often in the future.  They eventually learn of a secret way to cross over on their own.  Additionally, the constant exposure to the reality of the Looniverse has a physical effect on Mystery, Inc, causing the aging to slow down dramatically (or perhaps completely stop.)  Certainly, now, at age 60, the members of Mystery, Inc. still appear to be in their 20s.  And no dog lives that long for sure.  But not only do they remain youthful, but the Looniverse effects that they have absorbed tends to make people around them back in the TVCU oblivious to the fact they don't age and don't even notice the dog is a mutant who talks.  Back to the show, as I said, several mystery solving teens were pulled from the TVCU to be the team called the Scooby Doobies.  Scooby was named team captain.  The second team was the Yogi Yahooeys.  This team was captained by YOGI BEAR and consisted of other Looniverse residents.  Finally, the third team was the Really Rottens, led by MUMBLY.  This team consisted of bad folk from the Looniverse.  Often, OLLU AND BUZSLA were also pulled from the TVCU to be guest commentators.  SNAGGLEPUSS and MILDEW WOLF were the regular hosts.  JABBERJAW (of the TVCU) and PETER POTAMUS were frequent guest judges.  The Scooby Doobies team consisted of (all from the TVCU):  Scooby-Doo, Shaggy Rogers (Mystery, Inc.), Scooby-Dum (cousin of Scooby-Doo), DYNAMUTT, THE BLUE FALCON, CAPTAIN CAVEMAN (yup, another super-hero), THE TEEN ANGELS (Brenda Chance, Taffy Dare, and Dee Dee Skyes), SPEED BUGGY, Tinker, Babu (of the JEANIE family), and HONG KONG FOOEY.  This last one is the one member of the team who is actually from the Looniverse.  The Yogi Yahooey team consists of (all from the Looniverse):  YOGI BEAR, BOO-BOO BEAR, CINDY BEAR, HUCKLEBERRY HOUND, PIXIE, DIXIE, MR. JINKS, HOKEY WOLF, YAKKY DOODLE, QUICK DRAW MCGRAW, SNOOPER, BLABBER, AUGGIE DOGGIE, DOGGIE DADDY, WALLY GATOR, and GRAPE APE.  Finally, the Really Rottens team (also all from the Looniverse) are:  MUMBLY, DREAD BARON (later revealed to be the twin brother of DICK DASTARDLY), DINKY DALTON, DIRTY DALTON, DASTARDLY DALTON, MR. CREEPLEY, MRS. CREEPLEY, JUNIOR CREEPLEY, ORFUL OCTOPUS, THE GREAT FONDOO, MAGIC RABBIT, DAISY MAYHEM, and SOOEY.

Late 1978--YOGI'S SPACE RACE--Ollu and Buzsla, as Fred and Barney, make a guest appearance.

1978--ALL-STAR COMEDY ICE REVUE--I have no idea what this is, so I'm going to guess that this is a recording of a Hanna-Barbera characters on Ice type of thing, featuring (according to IMDB) BUZSLA (under the name BARNEY RUBBLE), HAIR BEAR, HUCKLEBERRY HOUND, SNAGGLEPUSS, YOGI BEAR, QUICK DRAW MCGRAW, BINGO, SQUARE BEAR, OLLU (under the name FRED FLINTSTONE), DROOPER, SNORKY, SCOOBY-DOO, JABBERJAW, BUBI BEAR, and FLEEGO.  Note this story must take place in the Looniverse with Buzsla, Ollu, Scooby-Doo, and Jabberjaw being visitors from the TVCU.

1980s--BLOOM COUNTY--Ollu and Buzsla make an appearance.

December 1982--YOGI BEAR'S ALL STAR COMEDY CHRISTMAS CAPER--Let's let Wikipedia explain this one:  Fred Flintstone appeared alongside Barney Rubble street Santasin Yogi Bear's All Star Comedy Christmas Caper, in which Snagglepuss asked them if they had seen J. Wellington Jones, in response to which they suggested he ask that question of an old lady. She screamed in fear of Snagglepuss, then Fred and Barney attacked him, purportedly for entertainment purposes.

1984--STRONG KIDS, SAFE KIDS--This video was compiled to keep kids safe from sex offenders.  Because before then, there was no such things as pedophiles.  Apparently, from my memories of childhood, this was an invention of the early 1980s.  All of a sudden children weren't safe.  Anyways, amongst those helping to keep kids safe is Arthur Fonzarelli (who looks good for his age), Ollu (using the name Fred Flintstone), the Smurfs (coming from the Looniverse), Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo.  Oh, and there is a song about penis and vagina.

1979 to 1988--SEINFELD--Buzsla and Ollu are living in separate apartments in the same building in New York City.  Buzsla has taken the name of Cosmo Kramer, and Ollu is now Newman.  While Kramer becomes good friends with comedian Jerry Seinfeld, Newman can't stand him.  In the final episode, Jerry Seinfeld, George (really Larry David), Elaine, and Kramer are on their way to Hollywood when NBC wants to make a show based on the four of them, called Jerry.  But circumstances wind them up in jail with a 10 year sentence.  Fortunately, they get out after just a few months, thanks to NBC execs.  The show does get picked up, but the name is changed to the Seinfeld Chronicles for the pilot, then simply Seinfeld for the series.  The show airs from 1989 to 1998.  This isn't the first time the the events of Ollu and Buzsla's lives have been turned into a show or movie, but in the modern age of media, this show is a deciding factor for the duo to permanently move to the Looniverse.

1986 to 1988--SLEDGE HAMMER--Some time during the course of this series, Hammer encounters the two immortal bumblers.  Thanks to James Bojaciuk for pointing this out to me.

September 1992--TINY TEEN ADVENTURES--"Thirteensomething"--In the Looniverse, Babs Bunny travels to New York City where she finds Ollu driving a bus.  Ollu and his partner Buzsla inexplicably have found a way to travel back and forth between the TVCU and the Looniverse.

November 1988--MAD ABOUT YOU--"The Apartment"--In this episode we learn that Paul sublets his apartment to Cosmo Kramer (who is really Buzsla).  Paul relinquishes possession of the apartment, giving it to Kramer.  Kramer lives across from Jerry SEINFELD.  His long, long time friend lives downstairs under the name of Newman.

1994--THE ALL NEW ADVENTURES OF LAUREL & HARDY:  FOR LOVE OR MUMMY--From Dennis E. Power, the expert on the Immortals Befuddled:  The last known appearance that I have been able to track of Ollu and Buzsla was in Florida circa 1994. Fearing exposure from the Seinfeld show they altered their appearances a bit and took menial jobs working at a Museum in Miami. Oddly enough they used the identities of the nephews of the comedians Laurel and Hardy, who men who had of course portrayed them. Their ability to find trouble also manifested here. The Museum director of Antiquities Dr. Leslie Covington was the daughter of a renown Egyptologist whose wife had perished in Egypt nearly thirty years before. Dr. Covington had been instrumental and in locating a lost tomb. The relics having been catalogued and studied by the Egyptians for nearly thirty years were now being lent for an exclusive exhibition at the museum.
Ollu and Buzsla soon discover that this is actually a plot by a secret Egyptian cult to resurrect a High Priest of the Set cult and provide him with a bride. The bride would then bear the incarnation of Set. Leslie had been "marked" by Set when she had been in the forgotten tomb with her mother and father. Although Professor Covington had refused to acknowledge it he had seen his wife killed by spectral serpent, although outwardly she had died of a massive stroke. Leslie had been bitten by the spectral snake and had been sick for some time before the wound had healed. He had convinced himself that the wound had merely been a scrape that had become infected.
Although the cult and the name of the Mummy are different in the film version the Mummy is their old friend Klaris and his  followers. So apparently it had been Charlie who had been blown up back in 1946. Despite their general bumbling, once again their eternal luck wins out. Leslie is saved, the bad guy is punished and the Mummy is destroyed.
Ollu and Buzsla disappeared shortly after the premier of this film and have not yet surfaced.

1996--KIDS FOR CHARACTER--Not sure what this is, but Ollu and Buzsla appear using their Fred and Barney aliases.

July 2002--HARVEY BIRDMAN, ATTORNEY AT LAW--"The Dabba Don"--I don't know that plot, but this is Ollu and Buzsla again in the Looniverse.

August 2004--JOHNNY BRAVO--"A Page Right Out of History"--Johnny Bravo of the Looniverse crosses through time and space to visit the Flintstones in prehistoric Bedrock of the TVCU.  Fred and Barney are of course Ollu and Buzsla.

August 2005--HARVEY BIRDMAN, ATTORNEY AT LAW--"Bird Girl of Guantanamole"--Plot unknown, but Ollu again appears in the Looniverse.  It seems appearant that since 1994, the immortals seemed to have moved permanantly to the Looniverse, perhaps finding it easier in a universe where everyone is an immortal bumbler.

January 2006--THE GRIM ADVENTURES OF BILLY AND MANDY--"Modern Primitives"--Sometimes between Ollu's last appearance and this one, he had been frozen in ice, transported to the Looniverse, and buried.  It so happens he is buried in Billy's back yard.  Billy finds him and undigs and dethaws him, but the freezing process has given Ollu temporary amnesia, shock, and brain damage.  In the end, he is refrozen, and partially eaten, but for someone like Ollu, that's just a temporary condition.

September 2007--ARMY OF DARKNESS AND XENA, WARRIOR PRINCESS:  WHY NOT?--Ash, who is always being pulled through time and space, goes back in time to the era of Xena, and interacts with her.  Though Win Scott Eckert says that Xena's universe can't be the same as his CU because of the really bad historical events displayed on that show, Dennis E. Power says that the show was based on stories that were told to Sam Raimi (hey, that guy) by immortals OLLU AND BUZSLA, who were there and involved, but though the events directly involving the main characters were true, the historical backdrop was all screwed up.  I actually conjecture (and since it's my world, that means it is) that Buzsla was Joxer, the clumsy would be hero who would tag along with Xena.  And Ollu was Salmoneus, the slightly sleazy but goodhearted con man that often encountered Hercules (though which Hercules I'll tackle at another time.)  Yes, that means the pair were travelling separately at the time, which wasn't uncommon.  Often they would fight and split up.

2010--THE DRAWN TOGETHER MOVIE:  THE MOVIE!--Still in the Looniverse, Barney/Buzsla appears in this documentary movie spin-off of the reality show.

ALTERNATE REALITIES:

BONGO UNIVERSE:  At one point, THE SIMPSONS find the Flintstones sitting on their couch.  It's unclear if Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble were Ollu and Buzsla in the Bongo Universe.  I'd say probably not.    Fred and Barney have also appeared on FAMILY GUY.  Ralph Kramden also appears on Family Guy.

CINEVERSE--This is the reality of the movie version of THE HONEYMOONERS.

Looniverse--There are a lot of Looniverse mentions in the main TVCU chronology, but those involve Ollu and Buzsla traveling to the Looniverse.  However, there was also a mouse counterpart to the characters from THE HONEYMOONERS existing in the Looniverse.

ROBOT CHICKEN UNIVERSE--Of course.

I know that this wasn't completely complete.  Some of that was intentional, other things might not be, so feel free to comment on what I might have missed.

And today is Dennis' birthday, and I hope I did justice to his characters.  I will say here that his exanded edition is unauthorized and though I incorporate his work, it doesn't go both ways.  His work is rooted in THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE WOLD NEWTON UNIVERSE, and as I've said many times, though the roots of my work is from the world of Farmer, the path I've taken greatly diverges from the path taken by the Wold Newton Meteoric Society, which is why I choose to call this the Television Crossover Universe.  Now time for bed.

  1. And here I thought the Doctor Who post would make my head spin! Some imaginative stuff there, but how do you account for the visualization of some of these people where there are marked differences? Is the TVCU all a universe of the mind? (It's something that I have trouble with when it comes to the WNU as well.)

A lot of work in there, Robert - I could never do it and accomplish the school workload you have!

    BCnU in the TVCU!

  2. I don't believe the actors look like the characters. For instance, note that the events of Seinfeld occur during the time when Jerry Seinfeld was just an up and coming comic, and the events of the show end just as the show "Seinfeld" was starting to air on NBC. I should have mentioned that the original "Jerry" cast got replaced by the guy from Airheads, the guy from Pretty Woman, and that girl who was on Saturday Night Live. The fact is that the events we see on TV are accurate (except when Dennis says they aren't, in this exception to the rule I make here), but the actors don't look like the characters, but they do resemble them very closely. Thus notice how closely those characters all look alike.

  3. Hi again, I just posted your link for thios page on my blog. I still say that fifty thousand years old is way too old for events that Power plainly states to be going on during the last days of the Ice Age, during the glacial recession.

I have a few more additions to the scheme and my own blog is just started. For example the page:
    http://cedar-and-willow.blogspot.com/2011/09/in-25th-century-and-beyond.html

And unlike you, I do not adhere to the "What you see is what you get" point of view so much as "Everybody has something to hide, everybody changes everything in the retelling, so we're all liars anyway" stance. Which makes life harder but you get so much more leeway to say "X says this but HE'S WRONG"

And you get that in almost any real-life research you come across anyway.
    Best Wishes, Dale D.

  4. Hi again, just another note: I have a complete episodes guide for The Flintstones up on my cedar-and-Willow blog, but there was too much junk html from imdb and I am still weeding it out. Also I decided that since the second Flintstones movie depicted Ollu and Buzsla more nearly the same height (instead of the nearly-universal "Short Buzsla" version otherwise), then that movie was probably the one that showed them more nearly as they realistically would have looked. "Rock Vegas" would have represented a vwery wealthy city=state in then-Spain, and a notorious place for gambling: the movie would have taken liberties with the decor but the plot would still hold up as pretty nearly correct. Oh, and it seems that Wilma's mother (represented asa Liz Taylor in the first movie and Joan Collins in the second) got swapped for Betty's mother by the moviemakers.

And thank you for the identification of Ollu and Buzsla as Salmoneous and Joxer; I believe they were also depicted in the cartoon The Roman Holidays, where Ollu had managed to make himself landlord of the tenement where Buzsla and family were then living.

    Best Wishes, Dale D.

  5. Latest two entries up on the blog also involve Ollu and Buzsla (or at least Ollu) directly, and they are on A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Happy Days and Charlie's angels. Being the latest ones, they will be the first to show up if you use the direct link. Cheers and Best Wishes, Dale D.

  6. In my essay "Corrupted Lines: An Investigation Into A Dissipated Branch Of The Wold Newton Family", I posit (with the kind permission of Dennis) that in 1977, the Immortals were working as roadies for a popular rock group, and were responsible for fathering three young men: One grew up to become Garth, the sidekick on a cult favorite public access show in Illinois. The others (including Garth's twin brother Jason) inspired Mike Judge to create the characters of "Beavis and Butthead", and later had their adventures told by writer/director Kevin Smith as Jay and "Silent" Bob.
